There is no disputing that project management today differs significantly from what it was five years ago. Trends in project management influence our field. Technology is developing, and there are new tools, mergers, innovations, and more.

Trends either pass away quickly or stay and develop into new practices that become “how we operate around here.”

Innovations In Project Management

The problem with trends is that you might not even be aware of them as they develop. You simply keep going about your business, paying little attention to the shifting ground underneath you.

Until it is too late. How many people from the generation of our parents felt less valuable at work as they were viewed as out-of-date? We don’t want you in that situation.

Directing a Hybrid, Multigenerational Team

Today’s project managers must oversee a heterogeneous workforce. Your project team’s daily attendance at the office is no longer assured.

Even the coworker who lives down the street is likely to be in her home office at least some of the week. Remote work has always been a feature of the project system, from off-shoring and near-shoring development to customer services.

Less Control and More Faith (Especially In Remote Teams)

The coronavirus pandemic has shown us the benefits of working with remote teams. Businesses that initially avoided switching to Zoom meetings are now appreciating the options that remote teams provide.

Project managers must be capable of managing remote teams and collaborating with coworkers online, which requires a new strategy. You have flexibility if you work remotely. It frees you from having to rely on local employees and allows you to get subject-matter expertise from whoever is available when you need it.

EQ and Soft Skills Can Set Leaders Apart

One crucial ability that deserves special attention is emotional intelligence because it has to do with how you behave in social situations. Your project’s environment is a dense sociopolitical web of relationships, full of people who, for the most part, know what they want.

And those desires don’t always mesh well with one another. As in the past, soft talents will continue to be more highly prized than credentials. Certification programs are an easy method to distinguish candidates as the need for project management jobs rises.

but being able to function effectively inside the organization is essential to getting things done. Just know that emotionally strong project leaders are highly in demand.
